Biography
Simon Gledhill’s exploration of NLP began unknowingly in London, working as an Account Director under the mentorship of Una McLoughlin, Head of Training and Consultancy at SITEL. It was during this time that Simon first became captivated by human behavior and communication, diving deep into the works of the pioneers of NLP. His fascination with what makes people tick would become the driving force behind his lifelong pursuit of knowledge in this field.
In 1998, Simon was appointed Head of Global Telebusiness at a leading international management consultancy. With the responsibility of helping clients improve customer effectiveness, he worked with major companies such as American Express, Citibank, British Airways, Visa, and many others across Europe, America, the Far East, and Africa. Through this role, Simon realized that organizations often overlooked the human aspect of business—the very element that could drive true transformation. Small changes in mindset, communication, and strategy could have profound impacts on employee satisfaction, customer retention, and ultimately, return on investment (ROI).

This realization fueled Simon’s drive to understand human behavior even more deeply. He started his own consultancy and training business in Cape Town in 1999, providing services to blue-chip organizations in South Africa and Europe. At the same time, Simon began hisformal studies in NLP. As he delved deeper into the field, he discovered a fragmented landscape—different schools and organizations offering conflicting views and content. While this sparked his curiosity, it also led to frustration as he yearned for unity within the NLP community.
Simon’s travels delivering training and consulting services across Africa, the USA, Australia, and the UK exposed him to many passionate NLP practitioners who shared his frustrations. There was a clear need for greater consistency in standards, more research, and a collaborative approach to advancing the field. This shared vision laid the foundation for the creation of the International Federation of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (IFNLP), which was officially launched in 2024.
